Students need to continue reading their chosen books for the cultural book project, and need to budget how many pages to read daily so that they finish on time.

Fri Nov 18th - parent signature due
Wed Nov 23rd - 1/3 of the book must be read
Wed Nov 30th
- 2/3 of the book must be read
Tue Dec 6th - the connection paper is written
Thu Dec 8 - must be finished reading the book (including author's note/info)
Fri Dec 9 - cover for the project is completed
Mon Dec 12 - story web is completed
Wed Dec 14 - cultural info with all other project parts - project due

Thanksgiving Guest essay - due Wed., Nov. 23rd including:
- 2-paragraphs, 5-9 sentences per paragraph, including topic and concluding sentences
- a transitional sentence which smoothly takes the reader from paragraph one to paragraph two
- six+1 traits; focus on organization, word choice, and sentence fluency
- neatly written in ink or word processed, *remember to edit before printing

Three Critical Features of Descriptive Writing:
- Paint a word picture for the reader
- Use words that appeal to the senses: taste, touch, hearing, sight, smell
- Stay in the same tense

Sentences: simple, compound, complex
Include and identify complex sentences in your writing. A complex sentence is a sentence that contains an independent clause and at least one dependent clause.
